Accessible Events

Promoting Equal Access

We are working closely and regularly with Selby District Council and Local Event Management Teams, throughout the District, to ensure that large public events can be as accessible as possible.

Le Tour De Yorkshire - Our First Accessible Event Project

The Tour de Yorkshire on May 2nd was our first big partnership project and saw a designated disabled car park, as well as an accessible viewing area provided on the day. These were a huge success and so well received. The success of this project has shown how important it is to make public events accessible for all, therefore strengthening our position to continue providing these opportunities moving forward.

Feedback we had from the event:

I just wanted to say thank you for providing such brilliant viewing access for the finish of the Tour de Yorkshire in Selby. As a wheelchair user I was prepared to leave the event if there was nowhere to see from my wheelchair. So you can imagine how pleased I was to find you there.

We would just like to let you know that we had a wonderful day in Selby at the TDY and the disabled parking you provided made all the difference to our children. Well done and thanks again and credit where credit is due.

Thank you for making the accessibility arrangements for yesterday. I would probably have not gone to the event otherwise.

If you are having an event and would like some advice on how to make it more accessible, please do get in touch.
